Migration guide · 8 steps

GUMROAD TO WHOP,
WITHOUT LOSING SALES

You do not have to shut anything down to move. Run both, move one product at a time, and keep your Gumroad listings live until the payouts tell you which one wins.

The rule that makes this safe

Neither platform is exclusive. Nothing forces you to delete a Gumroad listing, and no clause penalises you for selling the same product in two places. So do not migrate — duplicate, measure, then decide.

The whole process below takes an afternoon. The measuring takes a month.

The process

Eight steps

Pick your highest-margin product first

Not your best seller — your highest-margin one. The fee difference is worth most where the price is highest, and a single product is enough to prove the payout gap without touching the rest of your catalogue.

Open a Whop and verify your identity

Free, no card required to create it. Identity and payout verification is the step that can take a day or two, so start it before you need it rather than on launch day.

Decide whether you are gating anything

This determines your fee. A plain download is billed at processing only. Attach a Discord role, Telegram access, a licence key or a recurring members area and the 3% platform fee applies. Most people should gate something — it is the reason to be there.

Rebuild the product page properly

Do not paste your Gumroad copy across. Whop's buyers are a different audience — younger, more sceptical, more used to community products. Lead with what they get access to and what happens after they pay, not with feature lists.

Set your pricing and test the checkout

Buy your own product with a real card at the lowest price tier, then refund yourself. You want to see the receipt, the access grant and the refund flow before a stranger does.

Configure payouts before your first sale

Payout method changes what you net. Next-day ACH costs a couple of dollars; instant and crypto withdrawals cost a percentage. Pick the cheap rail and set a withdrawal schedule rather than pulling money out constantly.

Point your own traffic at it

Your list, your bio link, your pinned post. Marketplace exposure helps but it is not the test — you are comparing fees on the same traffic, so send the same traffic.

Compare one full month of payouts

Not revenue, not conversion rate in isolation — money that landed in your bank. If Whop nets more, move the next product. If it does not, you have lost nothing and learned something specific about your audience.

Be realistic

What does not come with you

Your reviews

Social proof does not transfer. A listing with 400 ratings on Gumroad starts at zero elsewhere, and that is a real conversion cost for the first few weeks.

Your Discover ranking

Whatever position you earned in Gumroad's marketplace stays there. You start from nothing in Whop's, and its algorithm rewards different signals.

Automatic tax handling

Gumroad's merchant-of-record arrangement is doing real work for you. Understand what your obligations become before you move revenue, and take actual advice if you sell internationally at scale.

Existing subscribers

Active subscriptions cannot be silently moved between platforms. Recurring customers have to re-subscribe, which means asking them — expect to lose some.

Buyer familiarity

Some of your cold traffic converts partly because it recognises Gumroad's checkout. That is worth something, and you only find out how much by testing.

Your customer relationships

Export your customer list from Gumroad and own it in your own email tool before you do anything else. Platform-owned lists are the single biggest risk in this business, whichever platform you end up on.

Start with step two

Open the account, get verification out of the way, and you can move a product across the same afternoon. It costs nothing and you keep everything you already have.
